We experimentally demonstrate the direct measurement of the discrete probability amplitudes of polarization states of light. We perform a weak measurement of the polarization state, and read out the complex coefficients of the horizontal and vertical basis elements by subsequent characterization of the mode's spatial degree of freedom. Our work is the first to demonstrate the direct measurement of the complex state of a two-dimensional system and has applications to measurements in quantum communication and quantum computing.
