The geometric measure of entanglement for a symmetric pure state with nonnegative amplitudes attracted much attention recently. We establish its connection with the Z-spectral radius of a nonnegative tensor in this paper. The spectral theory of nonnegative tensors has been developed rapidly and become an important part of numerical multilinear algebra recently. We show how the spectral theory of nonnegative tensors can be applied to the study of the geometric measure of entanglement for a pure state with nonnegative amplitudes.
